Orangutan Monitoring in Aek Nabara and Bulumario

Scorpion Foundation carried out a monitoring mission in two village adjacent to orangutan habitat in the villages of Aek Nabara and Bulumario from 19th to 22nd January 2026. Scorpion Foundation field staff, Aris Dedi Daulay and a local community caried out four-day orangutan monitoring in South Tapanuli. Below were descriptions of the visits:

a).During Day 1 they monitored presence of orangutan in the forest area near Aek Nabara village.  No orangutan or illegal activity was encountered during the Day 1.

b).In Day 2, they visited forest area near Aek Nabara village. During the visit to this area, they did not encounter any orangutan but they encountered a couple of Siamang (an endangered species which was also protected by the Indonesia law).

c).In Day 3-4, they visited again Bulumario village and encountered two orangutans (a mother and her infant. They frightened these orangutans so that they go away from the village and returned to the jungle. Appearing near residential area could endangered their lives if illegal hunter encounters them.
