In 2017 the Scorpion Foundation was awarded as “Outstanding Performance for an Emerging Organisation” at the convention of Asia for Animals Coalition in Kathmandhu, Nepal.
In 2020 the Scorpion Foundation was awarded by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry for its works in wildlife handling in Sumatra
SCORPION Indonesia Foundation
SCORPION Foundation Indonesia – Yayasan SCORPION Indonesia also known as SCORPION Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group, is a non-govermental organization established on 12th of May 2015, The Foundation became active in July 2015, and was officialy registered at the Ministry of Legal and Human Rights on 3rd of August 2015 (Reg #AHU-0010503.AH.01.04.2015). Since then, it has become the leading Indonesia NGO group tackling the rempant illegal wildlife trade currently plaguing our country.
We conduct investigations into the wildlife trade on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. Our work takes us all over Sumatra, Java, and Bali. Our aim is to extend it much wider. The photos and reports collected by investigators are then sent to our government with a request for them to take action.
We also regularly carry out awareness, outreach, and joint patrol with forestry police. Since 2017, we established a working unit called Tapanuli Orangutan Protection Unit (TOPU) to focus on Tapanuli orangutan protection. In addition, we also monitor captive wildlife in zoos, safari parks, and private homes.
VISION
Scorpion Foundation exists to ensure the Indonesian government safeguards wildlife from extinction and prevents cruelty towards, and exploitation of, animals.
MISSION
Scorpion Foundation will assist the Indonesian government to end cruelty towards, and exploitation of, animals, and to prevent the extinction of wildlife for future generations, through strengthened laws and enforcement efforts.

We especially want to hear from anyone who sees orangutans or other protected wildlife being sold at the roadside or in markets anywhere in Indonesia. Please take photos and send them to us with a brief note of the place and date taken.
