The Wildlife Authority (BBKSDASU) Resolves Human-Long-tailedMacaque Conflicts in Sei Renggas Village, Kisaran (October 16, 2026)

Kisaran:- Six long-tailed macaques that were disturbing residential areas in Sei Renggas Village were captured and relocated to Teluk Nauli forest in Simalungun.

A number of macaques entered the Sei Renggas Village in West Kisaran subdistrict of Asahan Regency, North Sumatra province. They appeared in the village since early October 2026 causing disturbances.

They disturbed people’s crops, played with and damaged clothes hanging out to dry around their homes. They even entered people’s homes and took whatever food they found.

Village head of Renggas reported the conflict to the North Sumatra provincial wildlife authority (BBKSDASU) for assistance in resolving the problem. The BBKSDASU, assisted by a team from the Scorpion Indonesia Foundation, set traps to capture the monkeys. The conflict management team was unable to capture all of the monkeys, but six were successfully trapped. With the six monkeys trapped, the rest of the herd fled the village.

On October 16, 2026, the BBKSDASU together with Scorpion Foundation transported the six monkeys to Sibaganding Village in Girsang subdistrict, Simalungun, approximately three hours’ drive from Sei Renggas Village. They were then released into the Aek Nauli forest in Sibaganding Village. Aek Nauli forest is an area of 2,374 ha managed by the Ministry of Forestry with the status of KHDTK (Special Purpose Forest Area for Education and Training). KHDT Teluk Nauli was determined by Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. 541 of 2025.
